Outlaw Motorcycle Colours

New Policy on Outlaw Motorcycle Colours

Those wearing the colours of outlaw groups – as identified by local law enforcement – will now be asked to remove those colours at Legion branches and events.
The new policy has been implemented with the approval of the Dominion Executive Council, including Presidents from all Provincial Commands and Special Sections. It applies only to outlaw group colours. All motorcycle riders including those wearing other colours remain welcome, as do those who respect the policy and remove their outlaw colours while at Legion events or on Legion premises.
Since outlaw groups vary across the country, local law enforcement experts are best positioned to advise on which should be disallowed. Please liaise with your local law enforcement experts to better understand motorcycle groups that exist in your community.

VETS Canada Volunteer Recruitment Session

Veterans Emergency Transition Services Canada (VETS Canada) is the largest 24/7 Canadian organization dedicated to addressing the emergency needs of homelessness and in-crisis Veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP. As a national charity and service provider of Veterans Affairs Canada, our hundreds of dedicated volunteers (most of whom being Veterans or still-serving military members) have relied on a unique model of peer support to provide life-saving aid in response to thousands of requests for assistance since our inception in 2010. It is our firm belief that no Veteran who served to protect our homes should ever be without one. To learn more, visit: www.VETSCanada.org.

At VETS Canada, we are volunteer-led in every sense of the word: we rely on volunteers to assist in the roll out of our mandate in providing emergency services - therefore, they are essential to the work that we do. As an initiative that also values the wellbeing of our Veterans, we hope you will consider sharing this recruitment session.

If you have any questions, please let me know. Many thanks for your consideration,

Kate

Last Post Fund

LAST POST FUND
Spousal Estate Exemption Adjustment
On January 1st 2018, the spousal estate exemption was adjusted according to the cost-of living index, from $35,738 to $36,310. This amount is exempt from the financial assessment of the estate of a Veteran who is survived by a spouse or dependent children. This is the second annual adjustment applied since the announcement made in the 2016 federal budget which doubled the exemption base amount and committed to having it indexed. Since the initial increase from $12,015 to $35,279 on January 1st 2016, 175 families who would not have qualified previously were granted financial assistance through the Funeral and Burial Program. An additional 91 families received full reimbursement of funeral costs, where they would have only received a partial amount before the adjustment. The total expenditure to alleviate the financial burden of funeral costs for the families of 266 Veterans has been $1,433,408.
